From now on you can pick Scaleway as your cloud in the Vela Atlas configurator, alongside Google Cloud and AWS. You click one provider, and Vela Atlas builds the rest: a complete, runnable project with cluster, database, registry, Terraform and CI/CD. What is new is that this foundation can now sit on a European cloud.
A European cloud on solid ground
Scaleway belongs to the French iliad Group and runs all ten of its data centers in Europe, four of them in France. Your data therefore stays under European law throughout.
That is backed by evidence. Scaleway is GDPR-compliant from the ground up, certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and HDS, and is going through the SecNumCloud qualification run by France’s cybersecurity agency ANSSI, one of the strictest standards for security and data sovereignty. That keeps your data under European jurisdiction and outside the reach of the US CLOUD Act. Control stays in Europe on the technical side too, because Scaleway develops its software stack in-house on top of open source. For teams that want to keep their infrastructure in Europe by choice, that is a solid foundation.
What you get with Scaleway through Vela Atlas
If you choose Scaleway in the configurator, Vela Atlas delivers your project with:
- Kubernetes Kapsule as a managed cluster, available in Paris, Amsterdam and Warsaw
- Managed PostgreSQL for your database
- Container Registry for your images
- Terraform modules and a GitHub Actions pipeline tailored to Scaleway
One difference from GCP and AWS is in the authentication. For deployments from GitHub Actions, Scaleway does not offer the OIDC federation that GCP and AWS use for short-lived tokens. The pipeline therefore runs on an API key made of an access key and a secret key, which you store as a GitHub Actions Secret. The key is long-lived, so you should rotate it regularly. Your delivered handbook walks you through it step by step.
When a hyperscaler still fits
If you need maximum service breadth or a specific specialized product, AWS or GCP are broader. For many standard workloads with the goal of staying in Europe, Scaleway is a real option. And because Vela Atlas turns the provider into a configuration choice, that decision costs you no rebuild.
Takeaway
Sovereignty is no longer a compromise. With Scaleway in the configurator, you set up your next project entirely in Europe, on a certified cloud, in the same time as with any other provider. Vela Atlas delivers the foundation, and you decide where it stands.
